<p>12. AM FREQUENCIES vs KRS-ONE  – Almost Pure Ah Yeah!<br />
Remixed at AM Frequencies, March-September 2011 by Andrew Mortensen<br />
© 2011 Andrew Mortensen / KRS-One<strong> </strong></p>
<p><em>There&#8217;s a lot of shit hip-hop out there&#8230; A LOT! But <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KRS-One" target="_blank">KRS-One</a> is not part of the shite that is shoved all in our faces.<br />
</em><em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KRS-One" target="_blank">KRS-One</a> is one MCs out there to really take rhyme and lyrics to a higher, more intellectual and philosophical level</em>.<br />
<em>Basically I took the a-cappella EP mix of his track &#8220;<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KRS-One_%28album%29" target="_blank">Ah-Yeah</a>&#8221; and mixed it with a stripped-down, more hip-hop version of &#8220;Almost Pure&#8221;. &#8220;Ah-Yeah&#8221; is from the album &#8220;<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KRS-One_%28album%29" target="_blank">KRS-One</a>&#8220;, which is the first KRS album I heard when good friend and band-mate <a href="http://www.triplejunearthed.com/brokn" target="_blank">Jacob Cook</a> made me a mix tape of some KRS, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boogie_Down_Productions" target="_blank">BDP</a> and Mingus tracks.</em></p>
<div class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 222px"><img title="&quot;KRS-One&quot; by KRS-One" src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41BAZ9DWGML._SL500_AA300_.jpg" alt="" width="212" height="212" /><p class="wp-caption-text">&quot;KRS-One&quot; by KRS-One</p></div>
<p><em>It worked out quite well I feel, and was quite a fluke how it matched without much editing &#8211; basically the vocals were cut from the record to what felt like the correct tempo.<br />
The scratches were made using my buddies from <a href="http://www.facebook.com/hermitude" target="_blank">Hermitude</a>&#8216;s creation &#8211; the app for the iPhone and iPad &#8211; <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/flare-scratch/id324824802?mt=8" target="_blank">Flare Scatch</a>. </em></p>
<p><img class="aligncenter" src="http://www.async-games.com/images/flareImages/flarePhoneS.png" alt="" width="334" height="262" /></p>
<p><em> You can check out the app <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/flare-scratch/id324824802?mt=8" target="_blank">here</a> and there&#8217;s also a <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/baby-scratch/id338290357?mt=8" target="_blank">free version</a> to check out, which is also great.</em><br />

<p>Tim Basically recorded the scratches for this a few days before heading off to Canada. I had just showed him the basic beat &amp; had him do stuff for about 10mins.</p>
<p>As much as I love tight &amp; technical hip-hop DJs, I&#8217;m from a noise &amp; experimental background when it comes to turntablism, so that&#8217;s why I will use some of the &#8216;not-so-tight&#8217; takes in tracks.</p>
<p>Tim &amp; I may do some more tracks while he&#8217;s still in Canada. I&#8217;m in the process of compiling samples and beats that I&#8217;d like to turn into an Optimus Prime album.<br />
