The remix project is still going but due to various other projects and participants schedules, there is no definite track listing for ‘Volume 5′.

Science-fiction jokes aside, Slimey Things might just still have a new album on the way, but details are scarce.

Before the hiatus, the band went into The Brain to lay down the drums and rough guitars, bass and saxophone for a new album. Nick Soole then continued to work on the album from his ‘Gamma Ray Gun Productions’ studio.

Here’s hoping that the album will be completed sometime in 2012.

Prior to leaving for the USA, Nick completed his second project for progressive music label The Bird’s Robe.
This one, again under the moniker of The Bird’s Robe Collaboration Band, is entitled
“Still Scores” and is based upon a series of illustrations by graphic design artist Jarrod Elvin (who has done artwork/video for Slimey Things’ last album,
“Quantum Reality T.V”).
The album is a mad mix of and all things you’d expect from a Bird’s Robe Collaboration project – eclectic, creative, varied and driving prog-rock.

The “Still Scores” line-up features:

Matt has been busy with a few things since the hiatus.
He is currently involved with 10-piece afro/latin/roots group, Brass Knuckles.

Brass Knuckles also includes members of other Sydney groups such as Jimmy Swouse & The Angry Darts, The Bakery and The BZNZZ.
They play around Sydney now & then, so keep an eye out and catch a show – great vibe and atmosphere!

Matt has also recently hooked up with, Jon Kenner, who was the original drummer for eclectic rock outfit, The Captain’s Package.
With Jon, Matt is playing drums to what he describes as “dark and moody roots/rock, ala Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen…”.
The band consists of Jon Kenner (ex-The Captain’s Package) on vocals/keys, David Sattout (The Angry Darts) on guitar, Matt Williams (Adrift For Days, Captains) on bass-ukulele and Matt Ward on drums/percussion.

He’s also working on his solo material in his small studio.
Maybe we’ll see another Cohnan Wildstyle?

Also, amongst all is musical happenings, Matt is about to open an antique ‘junk’ store.

Ian, as always, is in high demand for his skills on the saxophone. Amongst session work, DJ gigs and teaching, he is also a member of – along with Matt – Brass Knuckles.

Not long after Slimey Things went into (permanent?) hibernation,
Ian formed a new project with members of Darth Vegas, Rica Tetas, Jimmy Swouse & The Angry Darts & Mr Bamboo. The new project goes by the name of Killsong and a recent blurb describes them as:

Killsong write ugly music for beautiful people. Songs about poisonous, vengeful hotdogs and amorous encounters with rabbits. Featuring members of Darth Vegas, Rica Tetas, Jimmy Swouse & The Angry Darts & Mr Bamboo, the band has been described by the only true gauge of quality, three drunk punters, as: “occasionally powerful”, “quite confusing” and “too complicated for me to understand”.

Another group which Ian is busy with is the legendary Frank Zappa tribute band, Petulant Frenzy. This band consists of some of the hottest, most in demand musicians in Sydney/Australia and their live shows are definitely worth catching.

Andrew Mortensen

Andrew has been busy with a few things since the hiatus of Slimey Things.

Amongst working on the successful remix project, he has been busy with prog-metal band Serious Beak, who recently released their debut album and had their album launch to a packed house.
The album, which is receiving great reviews, can be purchased HERE.

As usual, Andrew is also working on Volume 5 of the “Re-Fleshed” project. The next volume should start to become available January 2012. Artists that are rumoured to have tracks on this one include, The Alphamama with Studio Tann & AM Frequencies, AM Frequencies, Techinfect, Jerry Craib (bluejuice), Rob Cornish, Matt Roberts, Miss Chloe, Greg Seiler, Anklepants, The Ghost of John Cage, Dyke Destroyer vs AM Frequencies, Invader and  Moz Troniquz.

Over two years in the making, Andrew’s black metal project, Död, is finally nearing completion. Vocal recording and rough mixes are currently in progress. He’s hoping it will be completed around March/April.

Also planned is a recording for his ‘doom-blues’ project, Death Valley Burial Ground. Ideas and very rough demos have been made and proper recording is planned to take place mid 2012.

The title of the album is “Huxwhukw” and is an eccentric amalgamation of mind-melting, toe-tapping, psychedelic, progressive and poly-rhythmic discordant music, sure to please fans of Meshuggah, Mastodon, Botch, Mars Volta and King Crimson.

Billy Liar is the project of bassist Andrew Mortensen. It started out as a project for Andrew to pursue his love of turntablism/hip-hop combined with dub and heavy rock/metal. Over time, it has morphed into a group effort that now contains elements from many genres.

Who is this guy?
If you’re looking at this page, chances are you probably know me & who I am.
I’m the guy behind this whole AM Frequencies thing and the remix project.
I started out playing clarinet as a child, then moving to bass as a teenager. Not long after that I began experimenting with turntables, tapes, sampling and broken electronics, touching on my favourite musical genres including metal, film music, dub, hip-hop, jazz, funk & experimental.

When not at home making noise, I’m playing bass in numerous original and cover bands.

When “Dawn..” was originally written, it was heavily inspired/influenced by the Bladerunner score and the Total Recall score (Interesting that both films are based on stories by Philip K. Dick).
With this rework/reimaging of the song, I set out to really create a film-score vibe and really bring to mind sci-fi film images. I am happy with the result.
There’s pretty much a direct quote (homage) to Jerry Goldsmith‘s score for “Total Recall”.
The original song is still in there, you just have to listen carefully. One or two sections were extended, but other than that, the original’s bass lines and melodies are there.
I plan on doing some more film-esque music in the future.

Död mainly consists of your typical black metal, but the album also contains 2 long ambient synth tracks, akin to the synth tracks that appear on a few Burzum albums. I got the idea to do a remix using the same synths that are used on the Död album. The original song is in there, but is quite hidden. I guess it could be considered a completely new Död composition, but enough sections and elements from the original track on “Fleisch” are present that it really is a remix/rearrangement, suitable for the “Re-Fleshed” project.

This track was arranged in one night.
I’d been listening to Fred Frith‘s album “Freedom In Fragments” which is an album of compositions he wrote, and performed by R.O.V.A.
I love this album and I wanted to try something like it.
I thought using the remix project would be prefect as a way of experimenting with the project idea of 2 altos, 2 tenors and 2 baris saxes.
I plan of writing an EP worth of tracks for this ensemble.

I’ve always been a huge fan of the genre known to people of these times as ‘lounge’ or ‘exotica’ or ‘bachelor pad’ or ‘elevator music’ or ‘muzak’ – the terms just go on. But in reality, the genre really just is pop music in the 50′s & 60′s, with worldly flavours added.
I first got into this genre as a young teen after I borrowed some of my grandparent’s records. From then on, I became a huge fan of this music and would hunt around for it in charity shops, garage sales and the Internet.
I’ve always wanted to try and make this style of music and with this remix, I finally got to.
I took a lot of influence and inspiration from Martin Denny, Arthur Lyman and Les Baxter, as well as modern-day electronic-lounge duo Tipsy.
Not much to say about the track really – it follows the original’s arrangement pretty much.
The end bass line is actually the bass line from “Quiet Village“, a standard for this genre.
I also added noise & hiss during mixing intentionally, trying to give it that vintage feel.
I’m quite happy with how it turned out and plan on doing more in this style – maybe even a whole album?
