<p><em>With this remix I don&#8217;t actually remember sitting down to make it this style. I was just experimenting with some beats and loops.<br />
At the time I was listening to a fair bit of &#8220;ambient industrial rock&#8221; or what some call &#8220;<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoegaze">shoegaze</a>&#8221; or noise-pop, drone-pop, etc. Bands like <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesu_%28band%29">Jesu</a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Bloody_Valentine_%28band%29">My Bloody Valentine</a> and Whirr (aka Whirl).<br />
Check out Whirr&#8217;s album below, really cool stuff</em><br />
<iframe width="300" height="410" style="position: relative; display: block; width: 300px; height: 410px;" src="http://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/v=2/album=1979955846/size=grande3/bgcol=FFFFFF/linkcol=4285BB/" allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0"><a href="http://whirrband.bandcamp.com/album/distressor">Distressor by Whirr</a></iframe><br />
<em> Although my remix is not as full-on and &#8220;wall-of-sound&#8221; as the above bands, this genre did play a part in this remix as I worked on it. I might do some more &#8216;shoegaze-esque&#8217; stuff in the future.<br />

<p>12. AM FREQUENCIES vs KRS-ONE  – Almost Pure Ah Yeah!<br />
Remixed at AM Frequencies, March-September 2011 by Andrew Mortensen<br />
© 2011 Andrew Mortensen / KRS-One<strong> </strong></p>
<p><em>There&#8217;s a lot of shit hip-hop out there&#8230; A LOT! But <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KRS-One" target="_blank">KRS-One</a> is not part of the shite that is shoved all in our faces.<br />
</em><em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KRS-One" target="_blank">KRS-One</a> is one MCs out there to really take rhyme and lyrics to a higher, more intellectual and philosophical level</em>.<br />
<em>Basically I took the a-cappella EP mix of his track &#8220;<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KRS-One_%28album%29" target="_blank">Ah-Yeah</a>&#8221; and mixed it with a stripped-down, more hip-hop version of &#8220;Almost Pure&#8221;. &#8220;Ah-Yeah&#8221; is from the album &#8220;<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KRS-One_%28album%29" target="_blank">KRS-One</a>&#8220;, which is the first KRS album I heard when good friend and band-mate <a href="http://www.triplejunearthed.com/brokn" target="_blank">Jacob Cook</a> made me a mix tape of some KRS, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boogie_Down_Productions" target="_blank">BDP</a> and Mingus tracks.</em></p>
<div class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 222px"><img title="&quot;KRS-One&quot; by KRS-One" src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41BAZ9DWGML._SL500_AA300_.jpg" alt="" width="212" height="212" /><p class="wp-caption-text">&quot;KRS-One&quot; by KRS-One</p></div>
<p><em>It worked out quite well I feel, and was quite a fluke how it matched without much editing &#8211; basically the vocals were cut from the record to what felt like the correct tempo.<br />
The scratches were made using my buddies from <a href="http://www.facebook.com/hermitude" target="_blank">Hermitude</a>&#8216;s creation &#8211; the app for the iPhone and iPad &#8211; <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/flare-scratch/id324824802?mt=8" target="_blank">Flare Scatch</a>. </em></p>
<p><img class="aligncenter" src="http://www.async-games.com/images/flareImages/flarePhoneS.png" alt="" width="334" height="262" /></p>
<p><em> You can check out the app <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/flare-scratch/id324824802?mt=8" target="_blank">here</a> and there&#8217;s also a <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/baby-scratch/id338290357?mt=8" target="_blank">free version</a> to check out, which is also great.</em><br />

But in reality, the genre really just is pop music in the 50&#8242;s &amp; 60&#8242;s, with worldly flavours added.<br />
I first got into this genre as a young teen after I borrowed some of my grandparent&#8217;s records. From then on, I became a huge fan of this music and would hunt around for it in charity shops, garage sales and the Internet.<br />
I&#8217;ve always wanted to try and make this style of music and with this remix, I finally got to.<br />
I took a lot of influence and inspiration from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Denny">Martin Denny</a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Lyman">Arthur Lyman</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Baxter">Les Baxter</a>, as well as modern-day electronic-lounge duo <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tipsy_%28band%29">Tipsy</a>.<br />
Not much to say about the track really &#8211; it follows the original&#8217;s arrangement pretty much.<br />
The end bass line is actually the bass line from &#8220;<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quiet_Village">Quiet Village</a>&#8220;, a standard for this genre.<br />
I also added noise &amp; hiss during mixing intentionally, trying to give it that vintage feel.<br />
I&#8217;m quite happy with how it turned out and plan on doing more in this style &#8211; maybe even a whole album?</em><br />

<p>8. AM FREQUENCIES – Almost Pure (Crash mix)<br />
Remixed at AM Frequencies June 2009 by Andrew Mortensen<br />
© 2009 Andrew Mortensen</p>
<p>This remix also came about by &#8216;accident&#8217;.<br />
I was working on mixing the original &#8220;Fleisch&#8221; album and just happened to solo the main guitars. I realised it sort of sounded similar to <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Crash-Original-Motion-Picture-Soundtrack/dp/B0000015M1/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1287278694&amp;sr=1-1">Howard Shore&#8217;s score</a> for <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crash_%281996_film%29">David Cronenberg&#8217;s adaptation</a> of J.G Ballard&#8217;s novel <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crash_%281973_novel%29">&#8220;Crash&#8221;</a>.</p>
<div class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 362px"><img title="David Cronenberg's &quot;Crash&quot;" src="http://www.planet-slushy.com/crash_ver2.jpg" alt="" width="352" height="548" /><p class="wp-caption-text">David Cronenberg&#39;s &quot;Crash&quot;</p></div>
<p style="text-align: center;">
<div class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 337px"><img title="J.G Ballard's &quot;Crash&quot;" src="http://www.housmans.com/images/CrashJGBallard.jpg" alt="" width="327" height="500" /><p class="wp-caption-text">J.G Ballard&#39;s &quot;Crash&quot;</p></div>
<div class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 310px"><img title="Howard Shore's &quot;Crash&quot; score" src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51y-QyPOflL._SL500_AA300_.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="300" /><p class="wp-caption-text">Howard Shore&#39;s &quot;Crash&quot; score</p></div>
<p>I then watched the movie again and it helped to inspire the remix.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m yet to read the book, but will very soon.<br />
If you have not seen the movie, it is a great movie, and same for the score &#8211; some of Shore&#8217;s best work in my opinion!</p>
<p>That&#8217;s about it, enjoy.<br />

<p>With this track, when creating the music, I was aiming for a minimal electronica feel &#8211; touching on ideas that might be akin to some Aphex Twin or Björk. It was sort of by chance that Morgan became involved. I had already planned to invite her to be involved in a remix of her own, but when I finished the remix I just knew her voice would suit the track. I was not expecting what she came up with!  She really went to town with the ideas, lyrics and some experimental vocal multi-tracking and techniques.<br />
I plan on hopefully doing another one with her down the track.</p>

Remixed at AM Frequencies August-September 2009 by Andrew Mortensen<br />

<p>With this remix, I had an Amon Tobin style in mind. I sampled quite a few parts of sounds from vinyl records, and used those notes to re-create the original riffs etc.</p>
