Jr Frequencies is the musical debut of Sotaro Mortensen, son of Andrew Mortensen, the man behind
AM Frequencies.
Sotaro is 7 months old and pretty much destined to be involved in music.
This is what happens when you put a baby in front of a keyboard, linked to a sampler (a sample of the original bass, heavily processed) and then do it another 3 times while linked to two drum machines and a synth.

AM Frequencies is one of the music outlets of
Andrew Mortensen.
AM Frequencies has covered many genres including noise, experimental, dub, film music, hip-hop, metal and electronica.
Most recent work is the “Fleisch” album which is industrial inspired rock/metal. This track is one of a number of self-remixes.
There’s a lot of shit hip-hop out there… A LOT! But KRS-One is not part of the shite that is shoved all in our faces. KRS-One is one MCs out there to really take rhyme and lyrics to a higher, more intellectual and philosophical level. Basically I took the a-cappella EP mix of his track “Ah-Yeah” and mixed it with a stripped-down, more hip-hop version of “Almost Pure”. “Ah-Yeah” is from the album “KRS-One“, which is the first KRS album I heard when good friend and band-mate Jacob Cook made me a mix tape of some KRS, BDP and Mingus tracks.
"KRS-One" by KRS-One
It worked out quite well I feel, and was quite a fluke how it matched without much editing – basically the vocals were cut from the record to what felt like the correct tempo.
The scratches were made using my buddies from Hermitude‘s creation – the app for the iPhone and iPad – Flare Scatch.
You can check out the app here and there’s also a free version to check out, which is also great.

Who is this guy?
If you’re looking at this page, chances are you probably know me & who I am.
I’m the guy behind this whole AM Frequencies thing and the remix project.
I started out playing clarinet as a child, then moving to bass as a teenager. Not long after that I began experimenting with turntables, tapes, sampling and broken electronics, touching on my favourite musical genres including metal, film music, dub, hip-hop, jazz, funk & experimental.
When not at home making noise, I’m playing bass in numerous original and cover bands.
You can see me about currently playing in
When “Dawn..” was originally written, it was heavily inspired/influenced by the Bladerunner score and the Total Recall score (Interesting that both films are based on stories by Philip K. Dick).
With this rework/reimaging of the song, I set out to really create a film-score vibe and really bring to mind sci-fi film images. I am happy with the result.
There’s pretty much a direct quote (homage) to Jerry Goldsmith‘s score for “Total Recall”.
The original song is still in there, you just have to listen carefully. One or two sections were extended, but other than that, the original’s bass lines and melodies are there.
I plan on doing some more film-esque music in the future. - Andrew Mortensen, August 2011
Hypokondriak is a metal band from Wollongong, NSW, Australia. The band play a style of metal that gets labelled ‘nu-metal’, although they dislike that term.
Fusing heavy, deep bass, with funky drumming and heavy, gritty guitars, these guys are just as good as their USA influences.
The band plan a demo later this year.
Hypokondriak are:
G-man – guitar
Milko – guitar
Mo – bass
Pete – drums

I can’t really explain how this remix came about. I was just experimenting with some trip-hop elements and it turned into this

Död is a black metal project by Andrew Mortensen. The project started out as a ‘joke’, but after writing a number of songs, he was quite impressed with how they sounded.
An albums worth of material has been recorded and is awaiting vocals to be recorded and mixing to be done.
The project takes influences from Emperor, Deathspell Omega and Burzum.
Död mainly consists of your typical black metal, but the album also contains 2 long ambient synth tracks, akin to the synth tracks that appear on a few Burzum albums. I got the idea to do a remix using the same synths that are used on the Död album. The original song is in there, but is quite hidden. I guess it could be considered a completely new Död composition, but enough sections and elements from the original track on “Fleisch” are present that it really is a remix/rearrangement, suitable for the “Re-Fleshed” project. - Andrew Mortensen, April 2011
Recently I was asked to do a remix of a song for AM Frequencies project. The idea was that I would do the mix in the style of another band that we both work with and that it would go on their first album. The moment I started sifting through the files I was inspired. As I was laying the tracks out in order of the sections of the original song I was immediately struck by the final section of the song. What followed was a furious 30-40 minutes where I completely rewrote the song around the final 8 bars of the original. While the song didn’t turn out the way it was initially intended to, I am very pleased with the final result. – RupertG, April 2011
Rupert Goes Shopping is based in Sydney, Australia and is the largely one man band of RupertG. RupertG has been writing and producing music for 15 years. He switched to electronic music after a run in with a car whilst crossing the road removed some of his fine motor skills in his hands and limited his guitar playing. Rupert Goes Shopping is heavily influenced by bands such as Dimmu Borgir, Opeth and many other Scandinavian Death Metal acts, but is not of the metal genre. They have been labelled ‘Gothic Lullabies’ by some and ‘Sunday Afternoons at the Pub’ by others. They are not sure what genre they fit into, and are hoping they work it out one day…
RupertG uses Propellerhead Software’s Reason and Record for all his compositions. You can find Rupert Goes Shopping at rupertgoes.com and on facebook.com.
