Shortly following the release of their well-received debut album “Huxwhukw”, Serious Beak put the raw stems of the album up to be remixed/destroyed by anyone.
Now the products of these remixes are available in the form of the album “Huxwhukw and the Crooked Beak of Heaven Remixes”. Features submissions from Alex Wilson (sleepmakeswaves, Enkidu), Nick Soole (Slimey Things), Dylan Mitrovich (Breaking Orbit), Hinterlandt, Godswounds, Moz Troniquz, Brendan Gloag (Face Command), Redbatman, AM Frequencies and The Artists Formally Known As Gene And Tim.

With a large number of remixes submitted from all over the globe, it was not possible for the guys to include all the remixes in the release.

But, Art As Catharsis has been kind enough to make available the songs that missed out on appearing on the album, as a collection ‘B-sides’ on their SoundCloud page.

Who is this guy?
If you’re looking at this page, chances are you probably know me & who I am.
I’m the guy behind this whole
AM Frequencies thing and the remix project.
I started out playing clarinet as a child, then moving to bass as a teenager. Not long after that I began experimenting with turntables, tapes, sampling and broken electronics, touching on my favourite musical genres including metal, film music, dub, hip-hop, jazz, funk & experimental.

When not at home making noise, I’m playing bass in Serious Beak
I’ve also been a member of Slimey Things, Leroy, and some other projects.

I’ve always been a fan of film music & scores, but after my close friend and long-time musical cohort, Nick Soole, re-located to the USA to pursue his passion for films & TV scoring, I began to immerse myself in a lot of film music.
Not long after my ‘first’ film-style re-imaging was done, I began work on this track. It started out as an accident, but once I heard the main bass riff done by the strings, I was flooded with ideas, and I just ran with them.
As I was making the track, images of action, sci-fi, and even horror movie intro sequences & scenes came to mind.

Some composers that (sort of) gave inspiration (no real direct influences while making this, just the general vibe) were Jerry Goldsmith, Brad Fiedel, Marco Beltrami and
Hans Zimmer.
I’m quite happy with how it turned out, but stay tuned as I might do a ‘reboot’ of the track with some help from Nick – it might appear on the out-take Volume which will be available by request at the completion of the whole remix project.

After listening to the original version of “Make Way For Suffering”, I planned to create a dark drone/soundscape remix. After putting down that initial ideas the remix evolved into more of a breakbeat inspired dark electronica track with lots of ambient elements.
I used edited versions of the heavier guitar riffs & synth layers as an underlying drone, and one of the key synth lines as a melodic hook that repeats throughout the track. The vocoded vocals came about after listening to the original lyrics of the song, which inspired me to go for a harsher robotic edge on the vocals.

Studio Tann

Studio Tann is a product of the devolution of man to the point where the only light the skin tone gets is from the bright lights of a computer screen in a home studio environment.

I was so appalled I had to rant about it. Basically it’s my reaction to what I read and trying to get the message across that religion should not be an excuse for bad behaviour. “This track is an interesting one. Ever since I started the remix project I wanted my friend Anita, who I’ve gigged with for years, to be involved. Anita is a real performer and as a side-man/rhythm section member, I witness her just command the band and you always know where you’re going with her leading.
When she started performing under the moniker of ‘Alphamama’, and then hearing some demos that were being done with Tim Hagan (aka DJ Jonah / Studio Tann) of Westlabz Productions, I knew she’d be great for the project!
This track is actually a remix of a remix.
I had made some remix ideas for Anita to do vocals on as a “AM Frequencies feat Alphamama”, but when she heard it, she suggested giving the remix to Tim to be re-remixed and made into a Studio Tann track. I was all for it as I love what Tim does and have huge respect for him as a producer & musician.
