Studio Tann is a product of the devolution of man to the point where the only light the skin tone gets is from the bright lights of a computer screen in a home studio environment.
That said a unique form of devolved music is created in this bleak circumstance. Studio Tann protects his extra pale condition by only venturing out after the sun is securely buried in the horizon. With the night life at his mercy he then reeks havoc with his twisted beats and subsonic tones.

Alphamama, aka Anita Meiruntu, is one of Sydney’s most versatile and reliable entertainers. Her experience in the live music scene extends from pop, soul & funk to world music and hip-hop, all delivered with an authentic knowledge and love for the genres.
She is a producer, arranger, musician, stylist, hair/make-up artist, promoter, booking agent and manager packaged in a hot one-woman dynamo!
Her charismatic stage presence along with her ability to connect with people has established her reputation as a formidable performer and entertainer. Well-respected and valued among her peers, she is an influential personality in the Australian soul, funk and hip-hop music scene.
Fluent in English and Indonesian (bahasa), Alphamama maintains strong ties to her Asian heritage, as can be heard in this track.

01. STUDIO TANN featuring ALPHAMAMA – ‘Ashes’
Produced, arranged & performed by Tim Hagan and Anita Meiruntu
Lyrics written and performed by Anita Meiruntu
Recorded & mixed at West Labz Sound, between October 2010 and December 2011
Original music by Andrew Mortensen
© 2012 Alphamama (Anita Meiruntu) & Tim Hagan (Studio Tann) / Andrew Mortensen

“Ashes was inspired by an article I read in an Indonesian newspaper about Islamic leaders lobbying to ban magazines such as playboy etc in Indonesia but in the meantime they had been marrying multiple girls at age 11, 12 and 13. I was so appalled I had to rant about it. Basically it’s my reaction to what I read and trying to get the message across that religion should not be an excuse for bad behaviour. That fanaticism can make you lose touch with what’s real and that God’s not gonna save you from yourself.” - Anita Meiruntu, January 2012

“Alphamama delivers hard-hitting conscious lyrics in both Bahasa & English.”
- Studio Tann, January 2012

“This track is an interesting one. Ever since I started the remix project I wanted my friend Anita, who I’ve gigged with for years, to be involved. Anita is a real performer and as a side-man/rhythm section member, I witness her just command the band and you always know where you’re going with her leading.
When she started performing under the moniker of ‘Alphamama’, and then hearing some demos that were being done with Tim Hagan (aka DJ Jonah / Studio Tann) of Westlabz Productions, I knew she’d be great for the project!
This track is actually a remix of a remix.
I had made some remix ideas for Anita to do vocals on as a “AM Frequencies feat Alphamama”, but when she heard it, she suggested giving the remix to Tim to be re-remixed and made into a Studio Tann track. I was all for it as I love what Tim does and have huge respect for him as a producer & musician.
The original remix will most likely be available on the final remix Volume, or maybe on ‘De-Fleshed’ which will be a compilation of alternative mixes and out takes from ‘Fleisch’ and the ‘Re-Fleshed’ series.” - Andrew Mortensen, January 2012

SLIMEY THINGS
As always, there will be shows happening in 2011 with new songs and new gags.
There’s also some interesting, exciting and different things on the cards.
Lips sealed until something is in concrete.
There’s also the possibility of recording again, either an EP or another album.

Slimey Things

SERIOUS BEAK
As mentioned in a previous post, the ‘prog-grind’ band I’m in will have shows happening in 2011. There’s also the possibility of recording. Niceness

A Beak that is Serious

LEROY (remixes)
Pop/Funk band LEROY has been pretty much in a coma since the departure of founding member guitarist/composer/producer Pat ‘Chuksing’ Wong. Pat relocated permanently to California last year. Before he left he gave me the Leroy EP session files. Throughout 2010 I have been tinkering with remixing the songs from the EP. So far I’ve done about 5 or 6 remixes, some are of the same song but in a completely different genre to the other remix.
I’m hoping to finish all the remixes in mid 2011.
Also hoping to do some shows again as Leroy is such a high-energy band that is really accessible and gets the dance-floor heating up!

LEROY (L-R: Andrew Mortensen, Ian Pieterse, Deva Permana, Chloe West, Pat 'Chuksing' Wong, Gary Honor & Graeme Petrie)

AM FREQUENCIES
A number of AM Frequencies albums are planned.
Of course there’s the on-going “Re-Fleshed” volumes (remixes/re-works done by various artists from around the globe). This year we’ll be seeing Volume 4 being available.
I’m planning on doing an ambient recording too.
Also looking into a trip-hop based recording collaborating with Optimus Prime (aka my brother Tim) and also Studio Tann (Tim Hagan aka DJ Jonah).

BUTTERKNIFENINJA
With the ‘upgrade’ of Rupert Goes Studios, and RupertG’s new guitar, it’s quite likely that ButterKnifeNinja will continue working on material.

DYKE DESTROYER
Call it anit-music, free-improv rock, avant-gauze-core or just horrible, horrible noise – Dyke Destroyer is one of the most enjoyable projects I’ve been involved in. Formed a few years ago, the project has a constant rotating line-up (depending on people’s availability), and has performed a handful of live shows. Only just last week the new album was ‘released’ (post on how to obtain it coming shortly). There’s even talk of an unplugged recording.

DÖD
A black metal project which started out as a ‘joke’, to just have a play with writing metal with an orchestral accompaniment. After writing a number of songs, I was actually quite surprised with how decent they sounded, and even had input from fellow other project members (RupertG [ButterKnifeNinja] and Nick Soole [Slimey Things]).
Tracks have all been recorded and now I’m in the process of bouncing down the music in preparation for vocals.

DEATH VALLEY BURIAL GROUND
Doom/drone/blues project which I hope to start laying songs down for. Hoping to get musician pals (old and new) to be involved as guests.
2009/2010 saw me get quite into doom and drone music so there’s some of this style floating around in mind.

UNTITLED EXPERIMENTAL DRONE/DOOM/NOISE PROJECT
Mid last year, Dutch guitarist/multi-instrumentalist/producer Tom Sibren van Iersel contacted me about collaborating on something together. We’d both been listening to a lot of drone and Tom suggested we mix it with noise elements (from all noise areas, such as black noise to harsh Japanese noise to 70s noise to ambient noise). Both of us are extremely busy but hopefully we can get something started.

VIOLENCE IN ACTION
Last year I began to be involved in musical-game group Violence In Action, conceived and led by Lachlan Kerr (Godswounds). It was a great idea and really fun to do, but unfortunately I probably will not be able to be involved due to other commitments.
Feel free to check it out as they’re always looking for people interested in being involved.

Tim Basically recorded the scratches for this a few days before heading off to Canada. I had just showed him the basic beat & had him do stuff for about 10mins.

As much as I love tight & technical hip-hop DJs, I’m from a noise & experimental background when it comes to turntablism, so that’s why I will use some of the ‘not-so-tight’ takes in tracks.

Tim & I may do some more tracks while he’s still in Canada. I’m in the process of compiling samples and beats that I’d like to turn into an Optimus Prime album.
